Free Hurricane Michael Assistance

Hurricane Michael’s wrath devastated most counties in the Florida Panhandle. When hurricanes strike, many people do not know where to turn for help. Unfortunately, many people affected by the hurricane do not have insurance to protect their home and personal belongings. Also, some people affected were renters who do not have renter’s insurance to protect their personal belongings.

There are several government and community organizations that offer free help and resources to those affected by Hurricane Michael. Listed below are some of these organizations:
1. FEMA

FEMA is federal agency that can provide resources and relief to those affected by Hurricane Michael. If you have homeowner’s or flood insurance, the insurance claim must be filed with the insurance carrier before FEMA will help. FEMA provides grant for basic repairs to make homes safe, sanitary, and secure. FEMA can also provide a temporary residence. 2. Florida Small Business Emergency Bridge Loan Program.

This a program funded by Florida Department of Economic Opportunity. It provides short-term, interest free loans to small businesses affected by Hurricane Michael. It bridges the gap between when a disaster hits until the business can secure long-term assistance through available insurance or other means. To apply, you must do so online before December 7, 2018 at www.floridadisasterloan.org. You can also call the program at (866) 737-7232 for more information.

3. Employ Florida Disaster Recovery Jobs Portal

This program is also supported by Florida Department of Economic Opportunity. Employ Florida is a job search engine which assists jobseekers find jobs available in areas impacted by Hurricane Michael. 4. Legal Services of North Florida.

LSNF is a non-profit organization that are providing free civil legal services to those who qualify and have been affected by Hurricane Michael. Among other services, LSNF is hosting clinics with attorneys on-site to assist with a variety of legal need. LSNF offers help in the following areas: landlord/tenant law, insurance claims, consumer law, title issues (heir property), and assistance with FEMA benefits.
